Small Feats WIP

The Niagara Artists Centre holds a fundraiser every year called “Small Feats”. Members are invited to submit up to three paintings (12″X12″) and they will be sold at a special event on Saturday April 12th with half or all of the proceeds going to NAC.

I participated a couple of years ago and plan to do so again this year. Last time I painted three “Niagara Winter Morning” pictures.

I liked the way they worked together and decided to try a similar theme this time. I am painting three “Niagara Sky” pictures and as I am going to be away for a couple of weeks in March, I thought I should get started. Here are my works in progress.

Google enhancement

I posted a painting on my other blog today and when I went to my Google photo album later on I found that it was offering this “enhancement”. I have no idea how it decided that the snow was appropriate but I rather like it.

Valentines Day

I am trying again with Ebay and listing a few small paintings. Just in time for Valentines Day, why not give something a little more permanent this year?these small paintings (5″x7″) are all signed but unframed, oil on board. Fresh flowers wilt, chocolates are soon consumed but these will last a lifetime (or more)

Starting from scratch

I have been having constant problems with this website.

As well as some native posts, I was cross-posting all my splynch.blogspot.com posts here. This seems to have been a mistake, resulting in constant out-of memory errors, problems with my back-ups and finally total breakdown of the site.

5″X7″ Oil on board, $75

I have rebuilt the site from the ground up and have decided not to continue to cross-post. However, there were a few native posts on my old site that proved quite popular, so I have imported those onto this new platform. In doing so I had to relink all my images, so I hope that everything is working properly.

Common WIP 2

This might be finished but I will leave it on the easel over night, I will probably fiddle with it in the morning.

I took this image with my ipod, using a neat little app called “DocScan HD”. It is designed for scanning documents and has a built in perspective adjustment. This allows me to square up the picture and is much easier than downloading onto my computer  and opening Photoshop etc. However, the quality leaves a bit to be desired and makes my oils look a bit like watercolours. This actually has quite a lot of texture and more saturated colours than I am able to get here. I will use my Canon when I photograph the finished work.
